Joint Statement from USA Volleyball and the Northern California Volleyball Association

On May 6, 2026, a special meeting of the USA Volleyball Board of Directors was held in order to allow representatives of the Northern California Volleyball Association (NCVA) to appear and provide a report on a recent internal review conducted by NCVA and its advisors.  At that special meeting, NCVA also reported on certain corrective measures it had implemented as a result of the findings of its internal review.

Following that special USAV Board meeting, USAV and NCVA have agreed to engage in a collaborative process whereby USAV will provide oversight and support to NCVA to strengthen its governance and operational practices and ensure the continued success of volleyball throughout Northern California.  As a result of this collaborative process, USAV has established a working group to work with NCVA over the coming year to review governance practices, financial policies, SafeSport procedures, tournament operations and member service initiatives. This effort is intended to support the corrective measures already implemented by NCVA, institute best practices throughout the organization, and identify additional opportunities to strengthen NCVA’s service to the Northern California volleyball community.

To date, NCVA is in the process of modernizing its bylaws to align with current governance best practices. The organization has also elected six new Board members and anticipates additional opportunities for qualified individuals to participate in the governance of the region in the near future.  NCVA remains fully operational and will continue to provide services to its athletes, clubs, coaches, officials, and families.

NCVA values its longstanding partnership with USAV and shares its commitment to transparency, accountability, athlete well-being, and organizational excellence. Together, NCVA and USAV intend to continue providing a safe, positive, and rewarding volleyball experience for all participants across the region.
